Bayern Munich lost significant ground in the race for the Bundesliga title after getting hammered by Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, and fans are blaming Harry Kane and Eric Dier

Fans think Harry Kane and Eric Dier have doomed Bayern Munich by saddling the club with Tottenham's trophy curse.

Thomas Tuchel's men were walloped 3-0 in their must-win top of the table clash with title rivals Bayer Leverkusen, who are now five points clear at the summit of the Bundesliga. Bayern were thoroughly outclassed, and Xabi Alonso's side are now strong favourites to be crowned German champions for the very first time.

Kane cut an isolated figure all evening while Dier looked... well... dire in the centre of Bayern's defence, with Leverkusen's forwards running rings around him. Fans on social media couldn't help but stick the knife in after the game, joking that the duo's hunt for their first piece of silverware will be everlasting.

"Kane and Dier are cursed man. Bayern literally could not stop winning trophies but as soon as they arrived they've gone all Spursy haha," one X user laughed. Another wrote: "This curse on Kane is wild. He's gonna retire without a trophy isn't he."

A third said: "I like Kane but I can't help but piss myself at the thought of him turning up at Bayern and them going trophyless for the first time in God knows how long haha."

The last time Bayern, who have won the Bundesliga for 11 successive seasons, went an entire campaign without a trophy was in 2011/12, where they finished runners-up in the league, DFB-Pokal and the Champions League, infamously losing to Chelsea in the final, a match that was held at Bayern's Allianz Arena.

Kane has been in hot form since joining from Spurs in the summer, with 28 goals in as many games this season, but it looks like his firepower won't be enough to land his team a trophy. Dier, who joined on loan in January, has made four appearances for the club so far.

Josip Stanisic gave Leverkusen, who are still undefeated in all competitions, the lead against Bayern on 18 minutes, before Alex Grimaldo double the home side's lead five minutes after the break. Jeremie Frimpong later made it 3-0 by firing the ball into an empty net in stoppage as Manuel Neuer had ventured forward for a corner seconds earlier.
