EXCLUSIVE: Bayern Munich are planning a summer move for Manchester City defender Kyle Walker after failing to lure the Englishman to Bavaria at the end of last season

Kyle Walker is still wanted by Bayern Munich.

The German giants came close to securing the Manchester City star’s services last summer - only for Pep Guardiola to persuade him to stay at the 11th hour. Walker signed a new deal back then keeping him at the Etihad until June 2026 - and has again proved an integral figure in the Treble holders’ bid for a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title.

In Kevin De Bruyne’s prolonged absence with injury earlier this season, the England right back has deputised as skipper. And while he is 33 and in the twilight of a glittering career, Walker’s superb form has reignited Bayern’s interest.

Both City and the player are aware the Bundesliga outfit, who next week face Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, will be back in for the right back when the summer window opens.

That became obvious during a recent informal inquiry from City about Jamal Musiala’s possible availability at the end of the season. As the Daily Star Sunday reported last month, the English champions are big admirers of the £80million-rated German playmaker.

Bayern hitman Harry Kane would certainly support a move for Walker, knowing the experience and quality his international and former Spurs team-mate brings to the table.

Walker’s haul of silverware is huge. Since his £50million move to City in July 2017, he has won five league titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups, four League Cups, plus the Club World Cup last December.

Whether the ex-Sheffield United man still fancies a crack abroad after this summer’s Euros with England remains to be seen, but if he does Bayern are quietly optimistic at the head of the queue.
