Most music festivals are full of good times and happy memories to be made to the sound of great hits – but some of them can turn into tragedy like Travis Scott's show last week

A performance by rapper Travis Scott in Houston, Texas, tragically ended in the deaths of eight young lives at the weekend.

Music festival fans travel from far and wide to escape from their everyday lives and dive into a weekend of music and dancing.

But sometimes they end in tragedy – with multiple dead.

Whether it's suffocating to death or dying from a lethal cocktail of illegal substances, some music fans didn't realise they were about to have their lives cut short.

Following the tragedy of the Astroworld festival on November 5, which killed eight people and injured hundreds more, the Daily Star has taken a look at some of the other fatal festivals from over the years.

Nine festival-goers died when a mosh pit at the Roskilde Festival 2000 became too rowdy in Denmark.

Fans were reportedly packed in so tight that people began to suffocate as they reported it was difficult to breathe.

It allegedly took too long for those in charge to depressurize the area resulting in the preventable deaths of fans.

Authorities say they could have been saved had action been taken sooner.

The Mawazine Festival in Morocco ended in the deaths of 11 people after a stampede made up of 70,000 fans trampled them to death.

Fans had been packed into the stadium to see Abdelaziz Stati perform but after the performance, the police failed to properly secure exits.

People died after they became trapped beneath a metal security fence that toppled over after concertgoers decided to make their own exit.

Reports claim the authorities did not intervene, meaning people who could be saved, still perished.

Love Parade 2010 had a narrow tunnel entrance leading 21 people to be trampled to death in a similar way to Mawazine, the previous year.

The grounds reached maximum capacity and the police responded by closing off the entrance

But when the crowd were asked to leave calmly, it became a stampede as they went in the other direction.

It became an unforgettable tragedy for festivalgoers.

Six individuals died at the Time Warp Festival in Argentina after suffering from acute poisoning from bad drugs.

The deaths of the young people led to the second night of the festival being cancelled and a search for the culprits involved.

However, drugs weren't the only cause for concern that weekend.

The event was also massive overcrowding as well as numerous people collapsing from heat exhaustion.

On Friday, November 5 at Astroworld, police confirmed that at least eight people had died and many more were being treated following the harrowing incident in Houston, Texas.

Emergency crews rushed to save lives on November 5, a handful of revellers chose to keep the party going by appearing to dance on top of an ambulance.

Those who tragically could not be rescued alive from the crowd included a 14-year-old teenager and a selfless man who put his life on the line to help another.

Travis Scott has been pleading for prayers for the victims after claims were made that the performer was unaware of the tragedies.
