Arsenal handed Bukayo Saka injury update as Mikel Arteta learns north London derby fate
Bukayo Saka was forced off with knee concerns in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Wolves, and Mikel Arteta has been handed an update ahead of the north London derby
Arsenal have been handed an injury update surrounding Bukayo Saka ahead of the north London derby.
Saka's injury concern against Wolves appears to be nothing serious to fret about, despite the winger being withdrawn once more at Molineux. Leandro Trossard came on for Saka after the latter hobbled off with what seemed to be a knee problem.
The England star needed attention on the field during the second half before his substitution, but he is not believed to be hurt, according to The Evening Standard. There was reportedly encouraging news following the match concerning his fitness for the north London derby.
Saka was also present for post-match responsibilities after the 2-2 stalemate, which provides another strong sign that he should remain available for the crucial derby clash.
Meanwhile, Trossard - originally named amongst the substitutes by Mikel Arteta - was also compelled to leave the field during added time on Wednesday evening. He was replaced by Riccardo Calafiori, who watched the ball deflect off him for Wolves' late and costly leveller.
The extent of a possible injury to Trossard has yet to be established, though it's suggested he might be doubtful for Spurs. Arsenal ultimately surrendered more points in the Premier League title chase, being held to a 2-2 stalemate despite holding a two-goal advantage.
The Gunners had been in front for the majority of the encounter, with Saka breaking the deadlock via his close-range header after merely four minutes, reports the Mirror.
Piero Hincapie's strike, which VAR ruled to be onside, extended the lead for the visitors. But Hugo Bueno's stunning curled strike into the top corner dragged Wolves back into the contest, and ultimately Arsenal collapsed under the pressure in added tim
Speaking to the BBC following the frustrating stalemate, Saka said: "Disappointed. Not much else to say. There was a big difference in how we played in the first half and the second half. We dropped our standards and we got punished for it.
"Time to focus on ourselves, improve our standards and improve our performances and it is in our control."
The outcome has handed Manchester City a chance to narrow the deficit to merely two points before the north London derby, whilst Pep Guardiola's team will welcome Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
