Arsenal fans sure Bukayo Saka sent 'cold' message to critics in goal celebration

Arsenal fans on social media were all saying the same thing after Bukayo Saka put Mikel Arteta's side ahead against Brighton by scoring a first half penalty at the Amex.

Bukayo Saka sent a defiant message to his critics after putting Arsenal in front against Brighton, at least according to Gunners fans.

The 22-year-old coolly converted from the spot mid-way through the first half at the Amex Stadium after Gabriel Jesus had been wiped out by Tariq Lamptey just inside the box. After stroking the ball past Seagulls keeper Bart Verbruggen, Saka peeled away in celebration and cupped his ears to the crowd and the cameras, and fans on social media all jumped to the same conclusion.

"Saka cupping his ears - shutting those critics up. Love it," one X user wrote. Another said: "Oi that Saka celebration is COLD," while a third added: "Love it. Saka haters can suck it."

Others suggested it was a nod to comparisons that were made between him and Cole Palmer following the Chelsea man's hattrick against Manchester United on Thursday - with fans noticing Palmer has more goal contributions than Saka does this season.

"Saka scored his penalty and put his hands on his ears for his celebration? He’s definitely seen the Cole Palmer tweets," one person wrote, while another noted: "Definitely a message to those idiots saying Palmer is better. Saka is colder."

The goal means Saka now has 17 goals in all competitions this season - a career best. 14 of those have come in the Premier League and he needs just one more to set a new personal record in the division. He also 13 assists to his name in all competitions so far.

Palmer, meanwhile, has 21 goals (two of which were scored in a Man City shirt), as well as 12 assists in all competitions this season. The 21-year-old has been a desperately-needed spark in an otherwise gloomy campaign for Chelsea, and stands a decent chance of winning the PFA Young Player of the Year.

Though Saka, who's also eligible for the award, could give him a run for his money.
