Trump and Putin shake hands in Alaska ahead of meeting on Ukraine peace deal

The Orange Manbaby greeted Mad Vlad like on old friend in Anchorage, Alaska as the two leaders prepare for a marathon meeting to discuss bringing an end to the Ukraine war

Donald Trump waited on a red carpet to warmly welcome Putin to US soil for the first time in a decade.

The US President appeared to exchange small talk and a joke with the man accused of war crimes on a runway in Anchorage, Alaska just after 11.20am local time (8.20pm UK time). The Orange Manbaby disembarked his plane first before both walked across the runway for their first face-to-face interaction since 2019.

They stood on an Alaska 2025 platform and posed for pictures as they shook hands for a second time. In a very strange move, Trump and Putin got in to the back of 'The Beast' – the US President's heavily armoured transport vehicle – and engaged in a conversation.

The Orange Manbaby a Mad Vlad will discuss a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine – without President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Putin's plane touched down on US soil for the first time in a decade just befre 11am local time.

Earlier in the week Trump said he is keen to "get it done", but last time the "it" in question was never resolved. The last time the two leaders met was in 2019 when they discussed a collapse in US-Russia relations, accusations of elections interference, and the war in Ukraine. Following that, the leaders left in good spirits – but no movement was made in any of the topics discussed.

At the time, Trump said: “President Putin says it’s not Russia. I don’t see any reason why it would be," in regards to voting interference. Later, Fiona Hill, Trump’s senior Kremlin adviser on the US national security council, said she had considered pulling a fire alarm or faking a medical emergency to end the press conference.

Since then, the leaders have remained firmly on their own side of the Bering Strait. While Ukraine have made efforts to reach out to the president, Trump and his right-hand man JD Vance were not too welcoming.

After berating the president for his outfit choice, and forcing him to thank Trump – there was a plateau in peace talks. Trump has had calls with Putin which have gone "well" in his words. But Putin has not ramped down his attacks.

Whether today will go the same way as the past few years or not remains to be seen, but as of yet, the fighting has not calmed down. Attacks from both sides have continued in the 48 hours before the talks.

In Ukraine, a fire broke out at a petrol station following a Russian strike in the north-eastern city of Sumy this morning, according to the Ukrainian emergency services. It reports that at least one person has been injured.

Putin will certainly not leave his back unguarded. After all, on Thursday vowed that Putin “is not going to mess around with me”. He added the Russian leader “wants a deal” but would face consequences if he becomes greedy.
