Iran have reportedly launched an airstrike of drones upon Israel, in response to the alleged Israeli killing of two Iranian generals in Syria. The United States have shared a statement on the imminent attacks

Iran has launched missiles and drones in their hundreds to strike Israel tonight.

Iran confirmed the attack following Israeli Defense Forces' chief spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, announcing they were anticipating Iranian aircrafts to reach land within a few hours.

On Saturday in an English video statement, Hagari commented: "Iran funds, trains, and arms terror proxies across the Middle East and beyond…Iran will bear the consequences for choosing to escalate the situation any further.”

According to journalist Hossein Dalirian, a new round of rocket and drone attacks aimed at Israel has begun from Yemen and Lebanon.

Iranian state media, IRN tweeted before 11pm BST "An Iraqi security source: Iranian ballistic missiles crossed Iraqi airspace towards Israel"

Israel has been on heightened alert since an airstrike last week killed two Iranian generals in Syria. Iran accused Israel of being behind the attack and vowed revenge. Israel has not yet commented on the Syrian attack.

Israel's war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip has inflamed decade-old tensions in the Middle East, and any new attack threatens to escalate that conflict into a wider regional war.

An Israeli official told Axios that Iran has launched "hundreds of attack drones" from multiple locations, according to BNO News. Lebanon, Israel, Iraq, and Jordan have since closed their airspaces, whilst Jordan has reportedly declared a state of emergency.

Iranian news outlets at first refuted claims that Iran is actively attacking Israel. Iran International alleged that there is a "specter of conflict" growing between the nations. The publication also maintained that there is: "...no concrete evidence of an Iranian attack on Israel has been determined so far other than psychological warfare tactics".

However, Iranian news agency Fars Media has recently confirmed the alleged attack on X. In a tweet that now has more than 200,000 views, the news outlet wrote: "Iranian sources: Iranian drones began crossing Iraqi airspace and approached Syria and Jordan. The missile attack will begin soon." (translated from Persian)

Fars Media have since added: "Israel's 12th network: Iran's cruise missiles are on the way" and "News sources reported that Lebanon's Hezbollah has targeted Israel's Iron Dome systems in Tel Neamah with suicide drones" (translated from Persian).

Although managed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Fars Media is widely described by Western news media as the semi-official news source of Iranian government.

The White House have also made a statement about Iran's attack, with the U.S. pledging 'ironclad support' to Israel. A spokesperson shared: "Iran has begun an airborne attack against Israel. President Biden is being regularly updated on the situation by his national security team and will meet with them this afternoon at the White House.

"His team is in constant communication with Israeli officials as well as other partners and allies. This attack is likely to unfold over a number of hours. President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel’s security is ironclad.

"The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defense against these threats from Iran."

Rishi Sunak is the latest global leader to comment on Iran's airstrikes on Israel. The UK Prime Minister likened Iran's actions to 'sowing chaos' in an official statement.

ABC News reported that there will likely be 400 to 500 drones launched upon Israel, according to a senior U.S. official. The airborne weapons are likely to be launched from Iraq, Syria, Southern Lebanon, and the Houthis, with most coming from Iran.
