Trump and Zelenskyy lock horns as president declares 'You are gambling with World War 3'
The carefully choreographed diplomatic meeting descended into chaos after Zelenskyy suggested Putin could not be trusted after Vance and Trump insisted Ukraine needed to compromise
A shouting match erupted in the Oval Office between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the US President took offence at the Ukrainian's "attitude". The Orange Manbaby repeatedly told him, "you are gambling with World War 3" in the heated exchange.
The 78-year-old also told Zelenskyy: "With us you have the cards. Without us, you don't have the cards."
Trump was backed up by his Vice President J.D. Vance, who also gave Zelenskyy a dressing down and asked if he had "thanked" Trump for hosting him. While the two Americans tore apart Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the US was seen burying her face in her hand, seemingly trying to hide from the wild scenes unfolding in front of her.
The unprecedented Oval Office bust-up threatened to break up the ceasefire discussions until the politicians spoke privately before returning for a much calmer press conference.
The fracas kicked off around 40 minutes into the meeting when Zelenskyy said his country signed deals with Russia in the past and that Putin couldn't be trusted. He was pushing back after Vance and Trump insisted he had to compromise with Putin.
Trump shouted Zelenskyy down, saying he was being "very disrespectful" to the US. The Orange Manbaby said: "You're gambling with World War Three. You're gambling with World War Three, and what you're doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country that's backed you far more than a lot of people say they should."
Vance then started attacking the Ukrainian, calling on him to show some appreciation for the support he has received from Washington. He said: "Have you said thank you, once, in this entire meeting?
"You went to Pennsylvania and campaigned for the opposition in October. Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who's trying to save your country."
After the meeting, Trump said Zelenskyy "disrespected" the USA and that he "was not ready for peace". He did leave the door open for the Ukrainian, however, by adding that he can come back when he is "ready for peace".
Zelenskyy is reportedly leaving the White House early after the joint press conference was cancelled.
