Trent Alexander-Arnold shows Liverpool passion as Leicester relegation confirmed
Liverpool headed to The King Power Stadium knowing they couldn't be champions today after Arsenal's earlier victory, but Leicester had their Premier League future on the line
Trent Alexander-Arnold showed what playing for Liverpool means to him as he fired the Reds a step closer to the Premier League title.
Much has been made of Alexander-Arnold's future, with the boyhood Red coming under scrutiny from his own fanbase as he's yet to commit his future to the club despite just months remaining on his contract.
Questions have been asked of his character from those supporting Liverpool in the stands amid speculation linking the England international with a free agent move to Real Madrid this summer.
But the 26-year-old answered those sneers emphatically as he hammered home Liverpool's winner against Leicester City at The King Power, moving the Reds just one win away from the title following the 1-0 victory.
However, his goal also had major implications at the bottom of the table, as Leicester's relegation back to the Championship was confirmed.
Returning to the team for the first time this month, Alexander-Arnold fired home the Reds' winner with just 15 minutes remaining after Leicester, and in particular, goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, thwarted everything Liverpool threw at them.
Alexander-Arnold celebrated by taking his shirt off and swinging it around his head as he ran towards the away end. He then let out a roar as his team-mates celebrated with him.
Liverpool knew they could be champions today if Arsenal were beaten at Portman Road and they won at the King Power.
However, the Reds learned that no matter their result, the title would not be sealed after Mikel Arteta’s team put Ipswich Town to the sword earlier in the day, winning 4-0.
Meanwhile, Leicester knew their relegation would be confirmed if they failed to beat Arne Slot’s side. A task that before kick-off looked nigh on impossible, but as the game went on, hope remained until Alexander-Arnold struck.
Liverpool need just three points to be champions, and the title would be confirmed if Arsenal lose at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
